Type of scam
Computer and Email Scams
Scammers use scary pop-ups, fake emails and phone calls to get into your computer, your accounts, or your bank.
The one thing to remember
Never let a stranger connect to your computer, and never call a phone number from a pop-up.
Which one sounds like what happened?
“My computer screen froze with a warning to call Microsoft”
Fake Virus Warning
“An email says my account is locked and I need to click to fix it”
Fake Login or Account Email
“I called a support number I found online, and they wanted money”
Fake Customer Service Number
“Someone from Apple or Google called saying my account was hacked”
Fake Apple or Google Security Call
“I got an email saying I was charged for Norton or Geek Squad”
Fake Subscription Renewal Email
“A strange call asked “Can you hear me?” or a recording asked me to press 1”
Robocalls and “Can You Hear Me?” Calls
“A recorded call says my car warranty is about to expire”
Car Warranty Robocall
“My cell phone suddenly says “No Service” or “SOS only””
Phone Number Takeover
“An email says they hacked my computer and will share private videos”
“I Hacked Your Camera” Email
Warning signs
- A loud warning on your screen telling you to call a number.
