Scam warning
Fake QR Code
A QR code is a small square barcode you scan with your phone camera. Scammers stick their own QR codes on parking meters, signs, or in letters and texts. Scanning one opens a fake payment page that steals your card details.
Also called: QR code scam, Quishing, Parking meter scam
The one thing to remember
For parking, use coins, the meter's card reader, or the official app you download yourself. Be wary of QR codes that are stickers.

- You scan it and it opens a payment website.
- The site looks official, but it's run by scammers.
- You enter your card number, and it's stolen.
Warning signs
- A QR code that's a sticker placed over something else.
- A website address that looks odd after scanning.
- QR codes in unexpected texts, emails or letters.
What to do
- Look closely before you scan. If it's a sticker, don't use it.
- After scanning, read the web address before typing anything.
- Pay at the meter or through an official app instead.
- Entered your card? Call your bank.
