Scam warning
Free Cruise and Travel Deal Scam
A call, postcard or ad says you've won a free cruise or vacation, or offers an amazing travel deal. To claim it you must pay fees, taxes, or “port charges” right away, or sit through a high-pressure sales pitch. The trip doesn't exist or costs far more than promised.

The one thing to remember
If you didn't enter a contest, you didn't win a trip. Book travel only with companies you know.
How it happens
- A recording says “Congratulations, you've won a free cruise!”
- Or you find a vacation rental or flight deal much cheaper than anywhere else.
- You're asked to pay taxes, fees or a deposit right away.
- There's no trip, or you're pushed into buying a timeshare or travel club.
Warning signs
- A prize you never entered for.
- Fees to claim something “free”.
- Prices far below everyone else.
- Payment by wire, gift cards or Zelle.
What to do
- Hang up on prize calls.
- Book directly with the airline, cruise line or hotel, or with a travel agent you know.
- Pay with a credit card, so you can dispute the charge.
