Scam warning
Timeshare Resale or Exit Scam
A company calls saying they have a buyer ready to pay a great price for your timeshare, or that they can get you out of it. First you have to pay fees for “closing costs”, “taxes” or “transfer”. There is no buyer.
Also called: Timeshare resale scam, Timeshare exit scam, Timeshare relief
The one thing to remember
Never pay upfront fees to sell or get out of a timeshare. Check with your timeshare company directly first.
How it happens

- The offer is more than it's really worth.
- They ask for fees before the sale can close.
- Once you pay, more fees come up, until they disappear.
Warning signs
- A buyer you didn't go looking for.
- A price that seems too high.
- Upfront fees to sell or to cancel.
- Payment by wire or to a company in another country.
What to do
- Don't pay any upfront fees.
- Call your resort or timeshare company yourself to ask about selling or giving it back.
- Check the company with your state attorney general.
