Social Media Impersonation Scam

This scam involves hackers gaining access to your social media account or impersonating a friend to deceive you into disclosing sensitive information like two-factor authentication (2FA) codes, passwords, or personal details.

Be wary of unusual messages from friends or accounts you trust, especially if they ask for sensitive information or urge you to take immediate action. Verify requests through other means of communication before providing any personal details.

Red flags:

  • Unusual requests for personal information or 2FA codes
  • Messages from friends with unusual or urgent requests
  • Links or attachments in messages from unfamiliar sources
  • Mismatched or suspicious account activity
  • Financially motivated, claiming to be able to double your money
